Thursday, 11th July 2024. About 100 students under the Institute of Brunei Technical Education’s (IBTE) iSKill program for industrial skills qualification (ISQ) visited the Muara Port Company (MPC) on 2nd, 4th, and 11th July.
The IBTE students were led by Deputy Commandant Training of the program, Khidmat Bakti Negara (PKBN), Major (Rtd) Sopian Bin Haji Mohammad Yassin, along with a few other officer trainers.
The students were welcomed by the Chief Operating Officer, Fazilah Yassin and the Human Resource & Corporate Communication Manager, Hjh Azian Hj Mohammad.
The aim of the visit was to help students understand how classroom theory related to the real world, expose them to the employment opportunities that require necessary skills and knowledge in operations management, and instill analytical thinking about how theory informs practice and vice versa.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to view the MPC Gallery at HQ, which showcases the development of MPC since its establishment, followed by a site visit to the Muara Container Terminal (MCT) to witness the quay cranes operation of lifting the containers from vessels to the terminal. They also learned how the operating system and digital procedures are managed remotely from the Control Room.
The students also had the opportunity to visit the engineering department, where they got a closer look at the different types of transportation vehicles used at the port. At the end of the tour, the students visited the warehouse to observe new technology for storing rice and sugar.
MPC continues to welcome educational visits and aims to provide a holistic and enriching educational experience. MPC believes that bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical implementation is important. MPC hopes the students of IBTE gain necessary skills and knowledge to be ready to step into the industrial field.
