Bridging Theory and Practice: UTB Students Explore Operations Management at Muara Port Company
Wednesday, 2nd October 2024. A total of twenty-seven students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) visited Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC) to learn about operations management concepts that are practiced by the company.
The delegation was led by, Muhammad Firdaus Mujibuddin Syah bin Haji Mustafa, Graduate Teaching assistant (PhD candidate) of Universiti Teknology Brunei. The students were welcomed by the Chief Operating Officer, Tuan Fazilah Yassin and a few other MPC management and staff.
The visit aimed to help students connect classroom theory with real-world applications, particularly in the context of the food and logistics industry in Brunei. MPC is keen to provide practical exposure related to their food supply chain management modules, while also exposing students to employment opportunities that require skills and knowledge in operations management. The experience sought to foster analytical thinking about how theory informs practice and vice versa.
During their visit, the students had the opportunity to explore the MPC Gallery at headquarters, which illustrated the development of MPC since its inception. Following this, they toured the Muara Conventional Terminal (MCVT) and Muara Container Terminal (MCT) to observe the operational systems and digital procedures in practice. The itinerary also included a visit to the warehouse, where they had the chance to witness the latest technology employed in the storage of rice and sugar. The visit concluded with a trip to the Muara Fish International Landing (MIFL) to gain insights into fishery operations.
MPC remains committed to hosting educational visits, aiming to offer a well-rounded and enriching learning experience. We believe in the importance of connecting classroom theory with real-world application. Our goal is for UTB students to acquire essential skills and knowledge, preparing them to thrive in today’s digital landscape.
