MPC and Universiti Brunei Darussalam Continue Strategic Partnership with Research Visit to Guangxi, China to Enhance Industry-Academia Collaboration

Wednesday, 9th October 2024. In a strategic collaboration to advance education and strengthen industry-academia partnerships, Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd. (MPC) and Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) will embark on a five-day research visit to Guangxi, China, from October 9th to 13th, 2024. This visit marks a significant milestone in their ongoing collaboration, designed to enhance leadership skills, foster industrial connections, and provide students with invaluable real-world experience.

The delegation will comprise approximately sixteen MPC staff members, led by CEO Mr. Wei Jinfeng, alongside eight postgraduate students from UBDSBE’s MBA program. The academic team will be spearheaded by the Deputy Deans, Dr Wardah Azimah Sumardi for Academic and Student Affairs and Dr Thuraya Farhana Said for Engagement and Partnerships.

This visit aligns with the core objectives of UBDSBE’s MBA program, which focuses on equipping students with modern leadership competencies, expanding their industry knowledge, and bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. Participants will gain first-hand exposure to international port operations, manufacturing processes, research and development initiatives, and the broader business ecosystem in Guangxi. The itinerary includes key site visits, such as the Guangxi International Automated Port, a visit to the 80MWp Fish-Light Complementary Photovoltaic Power Generation Project, and two prominent academic institutions, Guangxi University and Beibu Gulf University. These engagements offer unique insights into logistics, technology, port operations, and best business practices.

MPC, a joint venture between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group, plays a key role in regional development and port management. UBDSBE is dedicated to delivering quality education and fostering innovative leaders, and this collaboration with MPC supports experiential learning and opens doors to future research, training, and industrial engagement opportunities.

Mr. Wei Jinfeng, CEO of MPC, emphasised the significance of the visit, noting that it serves as a vital platform for cultivating high-quality human capital, a cornerstone of economic growth and essential to realising the national objectives of Wawasan 2035. He further highlighted Guangxi’s strategic role as a rapidly developing hub for international trade and port management, making this visit an ideal opportunity to deepen insights into cutting-edge advancements in the logistics and infrastructure sectors. This research visit also builds on the success of previous collaborations between MPC and Universiti Brunei Darussalam, demonstrating their shared commitment to driving innovation and fostering development that supports future collaborations in research, training, and team building.
