Muara Port Company Hosts Successful Stakeholder Engagement on Port Expansion Project
Wednesday, 16th October 2024. Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd. (MPC) held a Stakeholder Engagement Session at the Dewan Seri Kerna, Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), focusing on the Port Expansion Project. This engagement brought together relevant government agencies and stakeholders including communities from the Muara and Serasa areas, all contributing to shaping the future of Brunei’s primary port.
The engagement started with an opening remark by YM Fazilah Yassin, Chief Operating Officer of MPC emphasizing the significance of this collaborative effort. He shared, “The benefits of this project will not only strengthen Muara Port’s position as a regional hub for trade and logistics but also to further drive economic growth, create more opportunities for businesses, employments, while improving Muara Port’s overall efficiency and services.”
The session provided an opportunity for stakeholders to be aware of the project’s background, objectives, timeline, and potential impacts. Representatives from government agencies and stakeholders participated actively in the discussions, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the project’s significance. This engagement session helped align expectations among stakeholders, and ongoing collaboration is expected to ensure the project's success and long-term benefits.
The expansion of Muara Port includes the construction of a new container terminal with a capacity of 500,000 TEUs, equipped with three quay cranes and three rail-mounted gantries (RMG) cranes, as well as a draft depth of 13 meters. The new container terminal will be able to accommodate bigger and more vessels at one time, boosting its capacity for increased cargo volume. This project aims to boost the port's capacity and efficiency, reinforcing its role as a logistics hub and enhancing trade opportunities for Brunei.
