Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd. (MPC) Hosted Doa Selamat Ceremony for The Pre-Commencement of The Muara Port Expansion Project

On the 5th of July 2021, Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd. (MPC) held a Doa Selamat Ceremony for the Pre-Commencement of the Muara Port Expansion Project, venued at Lot 5975 (adjacent to the existing Muara Container Terminal), in Muara.

The Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at The Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, Ministry of Finance and Economy, and Chairman of Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd.

Special guests present, at the event, were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohammad Yusof, the Minister of Transport and InfoCommunications, and Chairman of Maritime and Ports Authority of Brunei Darussalam, and Her Excellency Madam Yu Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of People’s Republic of China. Also, present were senior officials from both the government and private sectors, MPC’s stakeholders, management and staff of Muara Port Company Sdn. Bhd.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Awang Mohd Fazilah bin Haji Mohd Yassin, Chief Operating Officer of MPC. This was followed by a speech from Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.

The critical and catalytic role that the Ports play in the growth and successful development of the industries and Brunei’s economy was echoed in both the welcoming remarks and the speech.

The event was officiated with the revealing of an artistic impression of the future Muara Port Cargo Terminal and followed with the recital of the Doa Selamat.

The event marks the embarkation of the preliminary works of the Muara Port Expansion Project, as part of MPC’s big commitment to realising the Company’s vision to become a world-class international hub that will facilitate the growth of Brunei’s logistics and Manufacturing industries in contributing to Brunei’s vision 2035.

In the near future, design work and feasibility study will be carried out to commence the Muara Port Expansion Project which aims to accommodate additional capacity of 280,000 TEUs per annum and up to 500,000 TEUs per annum by the year 2023.

The event also acknowledged Brunei’s strong longstanding relationship with China epitomised by MPC and that the diplomatic relations between Brunei and China will reach a big milestone of 30 years this year in September.
