Muara Port introduces Anti-Fatigue System (AFS) for BFI trailers
Saturday, 24th August 2024. Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC) and Brunei Fertilizers Industries Sdn Bhd (BFl) formally signed a cooperation agreement to provide BFl with logistics, operations and port handling services for the purpose of exporting granular Urea for BFI including operations at BFI’s jetty on September 6th, 2021.
MPC provides BFI with an end-to-end logistics solution to transport Urea from Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK) to Muara Port at average daily trailer rotation of 120 trips with daily tonnage estimation of 2, 736 metric tons about 82,080 metric tons monthly.
As part of the initiative to improve the safety of Brunei Fertilizer Industries (BFI) transportation vehicle, MPC introduces a system called Anti-Fatigue System (AFS), a sophisticated system designed to enhance the safety of the vehicle.
The newly constructed system aims to address common vehicle management issues such as speeding, driver fatigue and detours. By implementing comprehensive oversight, the system promises to improve the safety of the vehicle and the public through safety commands.
The core of the system is a platform that uses satellite communication technology to monitor and manage vehicle location, status, and other information. By utilizing the BeiDou/GPS navigation system, it can obtain real-time data on the vehicle's location, travel trajectory, and status, enabling comprehensive management of vehicle positioning, real-time dispatching, and other aspects. This effectively curbs issues such as speeding and detour driving.
Additionally, the device terminal includes an AI-powered camera that performs facial expression analysis, eye-tracking, and in-vehicle behavior monitoring. This feature effectively alerts drivers to issues such as fatigue and distraction, enhancing driver protection. The data is transmitted to the MPC data center through the Brunei Telecommunications Base Station.
Among other previous measures, MPC has also ensured that daytime operation up to 3 trips while evening operation up to only 2 trips. Prohibition to use Telisai road to transport BFI containers, drivers are required to have health declaration for fatigue management, vehicle checklist and inspection specifically for tires, lights, brakes, safety equipment.
MPC has also ensured that the driver total trips are only up to 3 continuous trips within 24 hours. Drivers must also comply with traffic law; thus, they must obey the speed limit adherence.
One of the BFI drivers states that the AFS system delivers strong protection for safe driving and public road safety through sensitive alarms. The driver also notes that ever since the system was installed, they have become more alert, disciplined and focused while driving.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in Brunei's efforts to enhance transportation safety and efficiency, providing a robust tool for managing the complex logistics of vehicle operations.
