
MV Mediterranea Visits Brunei Darussalam with a Warm Welcome
Wednesday, 11th December 2024. The MV Mediterranea made its inaugural visit to Brunei today, arriving from Kota Kinabalu with 2,531 passengers and 739 crew members. This marks the eleventh international cruise ship to dock in the Sultanate in 2024.
The arrival was celebrated with a traditional Hadrah performance by local cultural groups, creating an unforgettable Bruneian experience from the moment passengers disembarked. The rhythmic beats and harmonious chants set a festive tone, reflecting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Present at the welcoming ceremony were MPC's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wei Jinfeng, and Chief Operating Officer, Fazilah Yassin. During the welcoming event, the CEO presented a commemorative gift to the ship’s captain, Mr Kalchev Radoslav Vasilev, symbolizing friendship and mutual appreciation. The captain expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and praised the well-coordinated reception at Muara Port.
Throughout the day, passengers explored Brunei’s iconic landmarks, including the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Kampong Ayer, and the Royal Regalia Museum, Istana Nurul Iman, Jerudong Park and Mangrove River Safari. Local vendors set up cultural booths at the Cruise Ship Centre (CSC) offering traditional crafts and culinary delights, giving visitors a taste of Brunei’s rich heritage.
Muara Port has now hosted eleven cruise ships in 2024—a testament to Brunei’s rising prominence on the global cruise map. MPC extends its appreciation to government agencies, port staff, and local communities for making the visit seamless and memorable.
